At Lawn Primary School and Nursery, we aim for all children to see mathematics as a vital part of everyday life. We want children to develop a confident and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics that will stay with them through their education and beyond. As mathematics is such an important life skill, we aim to equip children with the skills necessary for life outside the classroom, be it helping to find employment or in the managing of finances.
To achieve these aims, we follow the White Rose Scheme of Learning. This is used alongside teachers’ own creativity, a range of textbooks and online resources to produce written and practical tasks specific to each child’s learning needs.
We aim to foster in children a love of number and this is at the heart of our teaching. We also want to inspire our pupils to solve problems and plenty of opportunities are built in for pupils to experience reasoning and problem solving activities.
Please find attached our newly adopted calculation policies from White Rose Maths. These explain in detail the methods we use in teaching concepts. They also clearly lay out the expectations for each year group from Years 1 to 6.
