Design Technology
Design and Technology (DT) is a practical subject encompassing food, textiles, structures and mechanisms. In DT, children will design, make and evaluate their products in each aspect.
At Lawn Primary and Nursery School, we believe the subject encourages children to become autonomous and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. We also believe that it prepares children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Through the study of Design and Technology, we encourage the children to combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as functions and industrial practices. Design Technology helps all children to become discriminating and informed consumers and potential innovators.
Throughout the school year, each year group studies at least three Design Technology units. The outcomes of these units are often celebrated throughout the school showing the children’s understanding of technological processes and their manufacturing skills. One unit also involves the children looking at food and cookery. Through learning in DT, pupils use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real-life problems.
