At Lawn Primary and Nursery School, we recognise that technology is an important part of everyday life. We want our children to become confident, creative and responsible digital learners, equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to use technology safely and effectively, both in school and beyond.
Computing begins in our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), where children develop their understanding through practical, hands-on activities that do not require a computer or digital device. These experiences help children develop early computing skills, including sequencing, recognising patterns, following instructions and solving problems. From Year 1 to Year 6, Computing is taught weekly using the Teach Computing curriculum, building on these foundations as children learn how computers and digital systems work, develop their programming and coding skills, and use technology to solve problems and bring their ideas to life.
Online safety is an essential part of our Computing curriculum. We help children understand how to stay safe online, make sensible choices and treat others respectfully when using digital technology. Through lessons, assemblies and special events such as Safer Internet Day, we encourage children to think carefully about their online behaviour and know what to do if something makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
We also provide opportunities for children to extend their learning beyond the classroom. By becoming a Digital Leader to support their peers and help promote online safety across the school.
At Lawn, we want every child to develop the confidence to explore new technologies, think independently and use their digital skills responsibly. As technology continues to evolve, we aim to prepare our children to make the most of the opportunities it offers while understanding how to keep themselves and others safe.
