Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

At Lawn Primary and Nursery School, we recognise the vital role that play has in supporting children’s development, wellbeing, and happiness. To enhance play opportunities and create more engaging breaktimes, we are preparing to launch the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme at the end of June 2026.

The OPAL programme will encourage children to explore, be creative, and enjoy greater freedom during playtimes. Pupils will have access to a variety of outdoor spaces across the school site, including the field, playgrounds, trim trail, and forest school area, helping them to develop confidence, independence, and social skills through play.

Our School Council is playing an important role in preparing for the launch. Members are meeting regularly to share ideas, gather feedback from their peers, and help shape the project. They will also be supporting the promotion of OPAL, helping to build excitement and ensure the whole school community is involved in this exciting new initiative.
