Reception Induction 2020
We are delighted that you have chosen Lawn Primary and Nursery School to be the first important step in your child’s primary education. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our school community.
As a result of the current circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic and associated guidance, we have amended how our induction process will happen this year. However, we are eager to ensure the transition to Primary School is a positive experience for all involved and will do our very best to achieve this.
Miss Phillips (our Phase 1 leader responsible for Nursery and Reception) has contacted nurseries, pre-schools and various child-care providers to begin to build a picture of your child; their likes, dislikes, strengths and interests.
Usually, we would invite you to a meeting at school, which will now happen over an online platform later this term. Similarly, we would also invite you to book home visit with our EYFS staff. Unfortunately, as this is also not possible at the current time, your child’s class teacher (either Miss Phillips or Miss Gillett) will be in contact with you to arrange a virtual meeting via Teams over the next couple of weeks.
In this section of our website you will find lots of information and resources including the induction booklet ‘Welcome to Reception’ that gives you information about Reception at Lawn Primary and Nursery School and also links to websites to help your child with their induction into School. We have also added some stories read by the Reception staff too - we hope you enjoy listening to them!

Stories by your Teachers!
Stories to share together
Change and new routines can be worrying times for our little ones and they may be full of big feelings (having new teachers) and small feelings (wearing new shoes) which they don't fully understand. Starting school is a new adventure and another new routine for our little ones to get used to. Our job is to listen to these worries and give them time to talk about them.
Stories are a great way of getting our little people to open up about the feelings they have inside. Here are some lovely stories which may help....

Apps for 2 to 5 year olds
We know that phones or tablets are part of many families’ everyday lives and our little ones love to use them, but it’s not always easy to know which apps and games can benefit their learning.
Here are some we recommend.
CBeebies Storytime is filled with free interactive story books and bedtime stories and is a great way to enjoy reading with your little one.
CBeebies Playtime Island contains a wide range of fun and educational games to help our little people understand the world around them and support the development of core skills.
Lingumi provides a course focused on spoken and communicative English. The app provides sets of learning games, speech recognition games and video-based games to help our little ones grow their grammar and get them speaking their first words.
Here are some useful websites which may support with the transition into school.
