Friends of Lawn

About UsFriends of Lawn Logo 2

Friends of Lawn is a registered charity run by a joint group of parents and staff, volunteering together at Lawn Primary and Nursery School.

Our aim is to help build a proactive, inclusive, supportive school community, raising funds to be able to enable and enrich opportunities for our children.

A small committee of parents and staff representatives organise events and activities, and provide support for school performances and tasks, meeting occasionally in person and virtually, WhatsApp chats and often via playground conversations!

We also have a wonderful group of regular volunteer parents who help us with specific activities both in the background and on event days.

Events and Activities

As for many aspects of life, the Covid-19 Pandemic has impacted Friends of Lawn’s usual activities.

An example of a “normal” year’s events would include:

Santa’s Grotto & Christmas Fayre

Christmas Card sales

KS1 and KS2 Discos

Easter Fete and Egg Trail

Mother’s Day Sale

Summer Fayre

Father’s Day Sale

Year 6 Leaver’s Party

School support provided throughout the year

Lost Property sorting

Providing refreshments and support at School Performances and Sports Day

Assistance to tidy/sort areas within the school, enabling staff to work more effectively

Meeting specific funding requests from individual teachers/ year groups

During the Pandemic we have added new, socially distanced events (many of which we would like to continue going forwards) including:

New Events

Autumn Art Trail

12 Days of Kindness Challenge

Pre-loved Book Drive

End-of-Year Coffee and Cake Van for staff thank you

We are very much working with school to re-establish popular face to face activities and new events and will update this as we are able.

Fundraising and Spending

The limitations of the Pandemic have made fundraising more difficult, however we have still been able to use funds to support projects at school over the last few years:

£5,000 contribution for Interactive Whiteboards for classrooms

Year 6 Leavers Books

Garden Supplies for the pond & gardens

Refreshments at Year 6 Leavers Event

Wipeable Pencil Cases for all pupils

Key Stage 2 Reading Books

End of Year Staff Thank You

Rainbow Picnic Tables for Playground

Coming: Phase 1 of Activity Trail in KS2 Playground

In addition we would like to invite parents/carers to use the Friends of Lawn links on amazonsmile and easyfundraising (this will not cost you anything but will give us a small donation every time you shop through these companies):   and (selecting “The Friends of Lawn Primary School”)

Moving Forwards

We are currently working closely with the Senior Team at the school, to understand Friends of Lawn’s role in a new post-Pandemic environment - where we are needed most and how we can focus on building an inclusive and supportive school community, bringing parents, staff and children closer together. We aim to change some events, making some activities free to join, or covering costs only.

We will use technology more to fundraise for equipment and projects that will enrich the students’ time and experience at school also will put more emphasis on external fundraising where this is feasible, as the local and wider economy returns to a better position.

How Can You Help?

We’re always on the hunt for more help!

If you:

  • enjoy fundraising
  • have imaginative ideas on ways to enrich opportunities for our children at school
  • like meeting people or want to meet more people at school
  • have a few hours a month to help plan or organise events
  • want a new outlet for your skills or talents or something different to add to your CV
  • are able to spend a couple of hours volunteering at one of our fundraising events or helping in the school on an ad hoc basis

we would love to hear from you at:

One of us would be happy to chat with you with no obligation!!

At the end of this year, we will be waving goodbye to many of our committee members, whose children are moving on to secondary schools, including the Chairperson and Secretary after 6 years’ service, so if you’re at all interested in any role on the committee, we’d love to hear from you!
