The first days
We want your child to feel happy and safe with us. When you accept a place at Lawn Nursery our staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child settle in. You and your child are welcome to come for a 'play and stay' session before their first day at Nursery.
All children are unique individuals, some settle at their first session while other children take longer. Parents should not feel worried if it takes their child a while to settle.
What to wear?
In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including messy ones, it is best to send children dressed in clothes which are easily washable and old. We also ask that your child is in sensible, hard-wearing school shoes that are easy for your child to take on and off themselves. We recommend Velcro or slip-on shoes and ask that you avoid laces.
It is good for children to practice skills which will make them independent. Simple clothing which they can handle themselves will enable them to go to the toilet when they want to and to put on and take off their outdoor clothes without being too dependent upon other people’s help.
Nursery School has spare clothes available in case of accidents but please provide a spare set of clothes in your child’s bag if you feel that this will make your child feel more comfortable.
As required by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) our children access the outdoors in all weathers, they need suitable outdoor clothing at all times including a named pair of wellies.
Please label all clothing clearly for ease of identification.
